Question by : Will the NEW Housing Plan Presented This Morning by Mr. Obama Solve the Housing Problem?
Mr. Obama called on Congress to take Action on his Plan to Solve the Housing Crisis, which he will present to them Sometime Next Week.

The main points of the Plan, (these were the points I jotted down, not quotes, but as close as I could get):

1) Require Banks to Re-Fi people who are "upside-down" on their Mortgages without charging normal closing and Re-Fi Fees to allow them to lower their Payments. (no mention of what to do about the Amount they OWE over the Value of the Home-"upside-down")

2) Eliminate the Red Tape by Lenders on Re-Financing.

3) Stop the "Abuses" toward responsible home-owners by Lenders.

4) Turn Foreclosed homes into Rentals to get rid of the "FOR SALE" signs that "bring down property values" in our neighborhoods.

5) Make sure people who lose their jobs - don't lose their homes.

6) Present a "Home-Owners Bill of Rights"
--a) No hidden fees
--b) No runaround when you call about your loan
--c) No fine print
--d) New safeguards to PREVENT Foreclosures due to "a run of bad luck
--e) Require simplified purchase form to buyers (1 page)

7) Charge a FEE to banks to Pay for this New Plan, so that we don't go further in debt.

That is his Plan.

I won't go into my Thoughts and Interpretation of all of this, yet.

What I really would like to know is What You All Think of It, either way, Left or Right.

Thanks in Advance for your Civility to each other with your Answers.
@Horse Head -- Mr. Obama mentioned this in his speech, I'm paraphrasing: ....shopped for a house they could afford, qualified for those loans and made their payments, but through NO fault of their own.... He says this plan is NOT for those that have Foreclosed, but for those that are still making their payments, but is making life hard. He also said: ".....all the fault of those that made the loans to those who couldn't afford them...." AND ....it was those that irresponsibly bundled the bad loans and sold them to make a "phantom" profit... Thanks for you Response.
@the optimist -- Thank you kindly for your response. I appreciate all respectful views. My main point in all of this is not what the Republicans would do.....I feel exactly the same; that they have not presented a plan either, nothing concrete or reasonable. Mr. Obama's "plan", which he has not "presented" yet, according to his own words, will do nothing, other than cost you and me More Money. It is Naive to think that if he imposes a "fee" on banks, and force them to re-fi peoples homes that are underwater, they will pass that cost on to us in some other way. It really bothers me that he will not recognize that Government Meddling in the 90's with the Housing Act caused the Problem, and that more Government Meddling will not fix it. That is my premise and I would think that no matter who is in charge. Thanks again for your response.
@Di -- yes, there have been 5 or 6 failed attempts, such as the Community Re-investment Act which have only exacerbated the problems. It's like Muddy Water, the only way to remove the Clean Water is to let the solids settle, then Gently Remove the water from the Surface. But, we keep stirring it up with "altruistic" Government Involvement and the Silt will Never Settle Out.

Best answer:

Answer by Chewy Ivan 2
No. The president can't fix anything if nothing gets passed through Congress. I heard Boehner is already shooting this proposal down.

Question by Andy F: Will the Trayvon Martin / George Zimmerman affair lead to Americans of all backgrounds fearing other races?
Even more than we do already, I mean?

A second question I have is whether maybe we already fear each other a little too much, considering that Trayvon Martin is dead because of it, and George Zimmerman's life may very well have been ruined as a result of this shooting.

Meanwhile, millions of African Americans remain on the unemployment rolls. So do additional millions of Hispanic Americans and significant numbers of Euro-Americans aka "whites." People of all races continue to face economic hard time as factory jobs once held by US citizens are being shipped to East Asia, or automated out of existence.

Meanwhile, too, millions of white, black and Hispanic homeowners with "underwater" mortgages are facing likely foreclosures and evictions from their homes by large banks that have received huge government bailouts under BOTH the Republicans AND Democrats.

But at a time when there's an urgent need for "workers of all backgrounds to UNITE," white Americans live in deadly fear of black Americans, and vice-versa. And blacks and whites both live in deadly fear of Hispanic Americans, and vice-versa. As George Zimmerman's shooting of Travon, and the national reactions against it, well illustrate.

So regardless of who was "right" or "wrong" in this shooting death, isn't it obvious that our collective reactions to it are all too likely to keep us divided along racial and ethnic lines, so that the majority of working members of the American middle class never unite, and the usual economic elites get to rule?

Question by blavelin: What does foreclosure mean for my taxes?
A property that I am a co-signer on is going into foreclosure. In a question I asked previously regarding this matter, someone pointed out that I will be sent a 1099-c form. What exactly does this mean? If the house is sold at auction will I owe taxes on the amount the house sells for or the amount that was owed or, if the house does not sell for enough, will I owe taxes on the amount not paid?

If we can sell the house before the foreclosure is complete, how does that impact the situation? I'm so confused.

And please, no posts about your tax or loan company. I will report it as abuse.

I guess I should have clarified: I'm a renter, so I have no clue what's going on with this house.

Question by bigdude46992: how do i go about getting compensation?
my neighbors yard has been being mowed by me for almost 4 yrs he was paying me because he moved out of state 4 months ago his house is being forclosed on and i let it go for a month the grass got high and i decided i had better mow it and have been mowing it eversince till the end of the foreclosure the bank has set in about a week now my question is can i send the bank a bill for my services and also my mower starter burnt up and i have borrowed my other neighbors lawnmower i have pics and i think i am entitled to some compensation am i right ?"

Best answer:

Answer by Shelley L
If the bank hasn't hired you to mow the grass, then they will not compensate you for doing so. If your ex-neighbor has asked you to continue maintaining it .. then you can ask him to continue paying you.

If he has dropped your services once the bank took over.. they you mowed the grass for your own "curb appeal".. and have noone to bill for this service.

As for the mower... any way you look at it. - it's all at your expense.
Besides.. YOU let it grow too high and thats what caused the burn out.

Question by Torrey M: Which candidate's platform on the issue of HOUSING do you agree with?
A, B or C?

A. Would freeze the monthly rate on subprime adjustable rate mortgages, with the freeze lasting at least five years until the mortgages have been converted into affordable, fixed-rate loans. Would call on mortgage industry to provide status reports on the number of mortgages it is modifying.

B. Proposes creating a $ 10 billion fund to help prevent foreclosures, eliminate some taxes and fees for families who must sell and offer counseling to homeowners. Announced a "credit card bill of rights" to provide disclosure of hidden credit costs. Would provide tax credits to 10 million middle class homeowners who struggle with mortgage costs.

C. Would consider greater intervention by the federal government to limit effects of mortgage crisis if current measures fail. Believes a government bailout should only be a last resort.

Best answer:

Answer by mt_pelion
Keep the government out.

It shouldn't even be a resort at all.

If you are too stupid to read the fine print of a document you are signing that willl control the next 30 years of your life or if you are so greedy that you are willing to take an ARM just to live in a "better" house then you deserve to lose it.

Live within your means and you will never have problems.

It is not the government's job to bail you out when you are an idiot.
